My little sister was just diagnosed with a disease that I never knew existed. It’s called Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (POCS) for short. These tiny little cysts make her hormones go bonkers and produces testosterone instead of estrogen. This can lead to life threatening altercations such as diabetes and heart problems. Another huge complication that can come from this is depression. Something that I personally could not live to see my little sister deal with. She already gets picked on enough at school about her weight and other things. The last thing she needs is to gain more weight gain and endure more anxiety. While I’ve never teased her about her weight, I would always just tease her about boyfriends and other little common stuff. However, knowing that she doesn’t look forward to coming home because of me, is making me stop completely. I mean it.
One thing that can help regulate POCS it is eating healthy and exercise. Something I’ve been doing ever since last April. I’ve lost 15 pounds and feel great about it and I want her to feel great about her body too.
So from this point on, not only will I stop teasing her entirely, I will make sure that we get a walk in every day. Whether it is just around the block or up the driveway, I want to help and be as supportive as possible and make her as happy as I possibly can.
I swear it.
